There are over xxx refugees in Kansas City, hailing from more than xx countries. Represented among them are Syrian, Burnundi, Myanmar, Somali, Sudanese, Bhutanese, and Iraqi, to name a few.
Jesus calls us to love the sojourner – which includes refugees. We, as foreigners on the earth and citizens of the kingdom, can understand a little of the displacement and alienation refugees feel. We are uniquely positioned with the hope of the gospel and the love of Christ to build relationships with refugees.
Refugees are not a cause – they are people like us. People who have material needs. People who need connections to find jobs and housing. People who long to be accepted and have friends. People who just want to practice speaking English to native English-speakers. People whose ultimate and deepest need is the hope of Jesus Christ.
UMKC Impact Refugees is a group of students who are committed to loving, serving, and building relationships with the refugees in our city.
