Our Story

Once upon a time, a young man from India named Kumar Venugpal came to the United States to obtain his master’s degree. He came to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, a devout Hindu. While he was studying at UMKC, he heard the good news of Jesus Christ, and he believed.

Years later he was an associate pastor at Wornall Road Baptist Church. He felt a burden to see more students at UMKC come into contact with the gospel. He knew that Christian ministry presence there was slim, so he began to pray about starting a college ministry. His pastor, John Mark Clifton, jumped on board the dream.

Early Impact UMKC Leaders Christmas

Through a crazy series of God-ordained events, a core team of five students and recent college grads was formed. Under the oversight of Kumar and John Mark, Impact Ministries was born in the fall of 2007.

In 2009, as God led 4 of the original 5 to new season of life, Travis Hamm became the sole Campus Missionary. Since then Impact has taken various formats as we have sought to effectively make disciples on the campus of UMKC. We have seen students come to know Jesus, be called into full time ministry, get married and start raising a family, be active members of local churches, and disciple others. We have at times had a presence on the neighboring Rockhurst University, though UMKC remains our primary focus.
